Corporate retreat in Cannes: get the team out of the Palais.

Seven group activities to fit around a conference, from the Lérins Islands to Grasse, with prices collected in 2026 and what we would skip.

A conference town where people forget to go outside

A corporate retreat in Cannes rarely happens where the brochure shows it. The Palais des Festivals hosts more than fifty professional events a year, and most teams who come for a trade show go home having seen nothing but the Palais, a hotel lobby and a restaurant somebody else booked.

Our view is firm: the best team activity in Cannes is half a day on the water or on an island, not a role-play exercise in a breakout room. The town has an asset few conference destinations can match: fifteen minutes by boat from the Old Port there are no cars, no exhibition halls and no badges. That is exactly what you want when the goal is to get a team talking.

This guide sorts by format and by duration. The prices quoted were collected in 2026 from the official listings of the operators, the City or the tourist office. We have not tested any of these formats with a group: this is a sourced notebook, not a ranking. Group rates are negotiable, so always ask for a written quote.

Seven formats, from the simplest to the most organised

N° 01
Half day

Sainte-Marguerite: the forest, the fort, and nobody in a meeting

The ferry leaves from the Old Port and takes 15 to 20 minutes. The tourist office listing, updated in June 2026, gives 19 € per adult with Trans Côte d'Azur; ask for the group rate. On the island: about 170 hectares of forest, flat shaded paths, a full loop in two hours. The Iron Mask and Fort Royal museum costs 6.50 € full price. The format that works: walk, picnic, swim. There are almost no shops on the island, so lunch has to be organised before boarding.

N° 02
Full day

Saint-Honorat: an offsite with the monks

The island belongs to the Cistercian community of Lérins Abbey, and its own company, Planaria, runs the crossing: 19.50 € return is shown on its website, with no year stated, so confirm it. The same site offers companies a privately chartered boat, a seminar package with a guided tour and lunch by the water, and a meeting room for 100 people with wifi, air conditioning and a projector. The vineyard covers 8.5 hectares and produces seven wines, which can be tasted. This is a working monastery: dress properly and keep the volume down, otherwise the place loses its point.

N° 03
On the water

Catamaran or kayak: choose according to the group

A catamaran with a skipper requires no licence: half a day is enough for the Lérins Islands, a full day reaches the Estérel or Cap d'Antibes. Depending on the company, boarding is at the Old Port or at Port de la Rague in Mandelieu: have it written on the quote. For a sporty team, the Cannes Jeunesse base at Port du Mourre Rouge runs guided sea-kayak trips to Sainte-Marguerite, in 3-hour or 7-hour formats; the strait is about 1.3 km wide. Its 2026 hire rates: 17 € an hour for a single kayak, 22 € for a double, from 2 May to 30 September. Group conditions to be confirmed.

N° 04
Workshop

Create a perfume in Grasse

The direct TER train takes about seventeen minutes from Cannes to Grasse. At Galimard, the Studio des Fragrances workshop on route de Pégomas is listed at 65 € per adult in 2026, by reservation: everyone leaves with a 100 ml eau de parfum of their own composition. The studio is not next to the station, so plan a transfer. It is the right format for a mixed group, for a rainy day, and for teams who would rather not appear in swimwear in front of colleagues.

N° 05
On foot

Le Suquet and the Forville market, as a home-made rally

Agencies sell rallies and treasure hunts in the old town. You can also do it yourself: teams of four, a shopping list for the market, two hours. The City states the market is open from 7 am to 1 pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and every day in July and August. A renovation is under way and some stalls are set up in the hall on the Allées de la Liberté: check before fixing the meeting point. At the top, the tower of the Musée des explorations du monde is climbed by 109 steps, in groups of 15 people at most. Note that the museum is closed for works until 30 October 2026.

N° 06
Free

La Croix des Gardes: an hour's walk before the plenary

An 80-hectare forest park on the hill that separates the centre from La Bocca, open free of charge all year, with the entrance on avenue de la Croix des Gardes. The path climbs to an orientation table that takes in the bay, the islands and the start of the Estérel; the cross at the summit dates from 1992. There are steps and rocks: trainers required, no office shoes. At 7.30 am, before the first session, it is the cheapest team activity in Cannes.

N° 07
Evening

The team dinner: a few streets back from the Croisette

During trade-show weeks, tables around the Palais are booked a long time ahead, and the price follows the location more than the cooking. For the same budget, the streets around the Forville market, rue Hoche and the foot of Le Suquet serve better food. Above twelve covers, ask for a group menu and written confirmation, and book before buying the train tickets. Our selection of market tables gives the price ranges we collected.

What we'd skip

An indoor activity on a sunny day. Team-bonding workshop, escape game or quiz in a hotel function room: all of that exists in Manchester or Frankfurt. Bringing a team to Cannes to shut it indoors is the most common mistake. Keep the room for the work, and go outside for the rest.

Both islands in the same half day. Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat are served by different companies, on timetables that do not dovetail. With thirty people, the connection becomes the subject of the day. Pick one island: the forest and the fort, or the monastery and the wine.

An incentive placed on the opening night of a major show. MIPIM brought 20,000 delegates in March 2026: on those evenings, taxis, tables and boats are taken. Also avoid jet-skis for a large group: without a licence, the format is a guided ride, a few machines at a time, while everyone else waits on the quay.

When to schedule it

May, June, September and early October. The sea is swimmable, the watersports bases are open (2 May to 30 September 2026 for the one at Mourre Rouge) and the heat is still bearable for walking. In winter the islands are almost empty and the perfume workshops run all year, but boat rotations thin out: confirm the timetable the day before.

Alongside a conference, put the activity at either end. The day before the opening or the day after the close, the town is available; in the middle, it is saturated. If accommodation is short, Mandelieu-la-Napoule is eight minutes away by train and Antibes eleven. Show dates are in our Cannes trade shows calendar.

Corporate retreats in Cannes, frequently asked questions

Which team-building activity should you choose in Cannes?

The one that uses the sea. Half a day on Sainte-Marguerite island (a 15 to 20 minute ferry, a walk, a picnic) or a catamaran outing with a skipper suits almost every group. For a sporty team, the guided sea-kayak trip; for a rainy day or a mixed group, the perfume workshop in Grasse.

How much does a corporate group activity cost in Cannes?

Rough figures collected in 2026, per person: 19 € for the ferry to Sainte-Marguerite, 6.50 € for the Fort Royal museum, 65 € for the perfume workshop at Galimard in Grasse, 17 to 22 € for an hour of kayaking. A privately chartered catamaran is priced by quote, depending on the boat and the duration. Group rates are negotiated directly.

Can you hold a meeting on the Lérins Islands?

Yes, on Saint-Honorat. The Lérins Abbey boat company advertises a meeting room for 100 people with wifi, air conditioning and a projector, a seminar package with a guided tour and lunch, and private boat charter. Sainte-Marguerite is better suited to an outdoor activity.

What can a team do in Cannes if it rains?

The perfume-making workshop in Grasse, seventeen minutes away by TER train, is the most solid fallback. In Cannes itself, the municipal museums cost 6.50 € full price, and the Palais des Festivals performance season runs from September to the end of April.

How much time should you allow for an activity alongside a trade show?

Half a day is enough. The crossing to the islands takes 15 to 20 minutes, the loop of Sainte-Marguerite two hours. Allow four hours door to door from the Palais des Festivals, lunch included. Place it the day before the opening or the day after the close.
