Hôtel Martinez

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ · Palace
73 boulevard de la Croisette, Cannes

The Art Deco address on the Croisette, opened in 1929, with 410 rooms and suites and, since June 2026, the only hotel in Cannes to hold the Palace distinction. Listed here from official sources, with what we'd check before booking.

What the official sources say

Hôtel Martinez has stood at 73 boulevard de la Croisette since 1929. It is the Art Deco address on the boulevard, run by Hyatt under The Unbound Collection brand. The hotel closed in 2017 for a complete redesign and reopened in March 2018. Its June 2026 press release gives 410 rooms and suites.

The news dates from 2 June 2026: Atout France awarded it the Palace distinction. It is the first hotel in Cannes to earn it since the label was created in 2010, and the only one so far. Neither the Carlton, nor the Majestic, nor the JW Marriott appears on the 2026 list of France's 33 Palace hotels: they are five-star hotels. In Cannes, people say 'palace' for the whole boulevard. Officially, the word covers just one.

On site, according to the hotel: two restaurants, Le Sud and La Palme d'Or, the Martinez Bar, a garden with a pool called L'Oasis du Martinez, a spa by Carita, a fitness area and, across the boulevard, La Plage du Martinez with its pontoon.

Our view: you choose it for the building

We have not slept there: this is a sourced notebook entry, not an account of a stay. Our reading is still clear-cut. You choose the Martinez for its architecture and for its position at the eastern end of the Croisette, about one kilometre from the Palais des Festivals: far enough to escape the thick of the red-carpet crowd, close enough to walk. If your week is spent at the Palais morning and evening, the Majestic or the JW Marriott make more sense.

On the food side, update your references. La Palme d'Or reopened in May 2024 under Jean Imbert and has held one Michelin star since 2025: the two stars belong to the previous era. The Michelin Guide lists service from Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30pm to 10pm, to be confirmed before booking.

In Cannes, everyone says palace. On the official list, there is only one.

What we'd skip

Paying for the address without checking which way the room faces. Not every room looks at the sea: the words sea view should appear in black and white on your confirmation, otherwise you are buying the word Croisette and a window on the town side.

Coming in May unless you have to. During the Film Festival, Croisette hotels charge several times their winter rate and run to the rhythm of the delegations. Out of season, the same building can finally be looked at.

Counting on the beach for the evening. Our entry on La Plage du Martinez records opening hours of 10am to 5pm: it is a daytime beach.

What we'd check before booking

Price first. A press report from June 2026 puts the deluxe room from around €840 a night before taxes, and a sunbed from €57 a day depending on the row: orders of magnitude, to be confirmed on the official website for your dates. Then we would ask whether pool and beach access are included in the rate, which evenings La Palme d'Or serves, and exactly which way the room faces. We will add our verified notes after a visit.
