One street back, several price brackets lower
In Cannes, the price of a room is decided over about a hundred metres. On the boulevard de la Croisette you pay for the façade and the word. One street back, between the Croisette and the rue d'Antibes, you pay for location alone: the beach three minutes away on foot, the Palais des Festivals five, and a rate that drops several brackets.
Our view is clear-cut: for two or three nights, a good three or four-star hotel in the centre is the best hotel purchase in town. You give up the sea view, which most boulevard rooms do not have anyway. Let us be honest about the word "cheap": in Cannes it is relative. Our hotel guide places a three-star in the centre between €90 and €180 a night and a four-star near the Croisette between €180 and €400, for a double room, outside Festival and congress weeks.
A note on method. We have not slept in any of these hotels. Every address, category and facility was checked on the hotel's official website in October 2026. None of these sites publishes a fixed price list, so we give no rate per hotel, only what each one states in black and white.
Six central hotels, checked on their official websites
N° 01
3 stars · 23 rooms · garden
Hôtel Molière, the garden between the Croisette and rue d'Antibes
5 rue Molière. Twenty-three rooms on a quiet street linking the rue d'Antibes to the Croisette, with a garden where breakfast is taken in fine weather. The hotel serves it from 7am to 10.30am, in the veranda, in the garden or in your room, and specifies that room service carries no supplement: a rare detail. It is a five-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals. The website mentions neither a pool nor parking: here you are buying the garden and the address. It is our first choice for a car-free weekend for two. Official website.
N° 02
3 stars · 200 m from the Croisette
Hôtel Jardin Croisette, the reference from our main guide
Same rue Molière, two numbers along: the hotel's website shows both 7 rue Molière and 112 rue d'Antibes, as the building opens onto both streets. Three stars, a garden the hotel calls tropical, a sunny terrace where breakfast is served, air-conditioned and soundproofed rooms, a lift. It gives its distance as 200 metres from the Croisette and the beaches. One point to check if you arrive late: outside summer, reception is listed as open from 7am to 11.30am and then from 3.30pm to 7.30pm only, and around the clock in season. Tell them your arrival time. Official website.
N° 03
4 stars · 29 rooms
Hôtel America, one minute from the Palais
16 rue Notre-Dame, between the Croisette and the rue d'Antibes. Twenty-nine rooms, and the argument the hotel puts forward itself: the Palais des Festivals one minute away on foot. For a congress or a screening, that is the distance of the Majestic without its rate. Breakfast is served from 7am to 10.30am, in the lobby or in your room for a €5 supplement. No pool or parking mentioned. This is the address to look at if your days are spent at the Palais and the room is mostly for sleeping. Official website.
N° 04
4 stars · 64 rooms · pool and spa
Le Cristal Hôtel & Spa, a pool in the heart of the Carré d'Or
13-15 rond-point Duboys d'Angers, in the grid of streets locals call the Carré d'Or. Sixty-four rooms, a spa on the top floor and what the hotel describes as an indoor-outdoor pool: in this bracket and this close to the boulevard, that is uncommon. The Palais is given as a ten-minute walk, and the buffet breakfast is served from 7am to 10.30am. The website does not say whether spa access is included in the room rate, nor in which period the pool is open: if that is your reason for booking, ask in writing first. Official website.
N° 05
4 stars · 125 rooms · station
OKKO Hotels Cannes Centre, the choice if you arrive by train
6 bis place de la Gare, at the foot of the railway station. One hundred and twenty-five rooms, and a formula that changes the sums: the Club, a lounge open 24 hours a day, is listed as included, as are the fitness area (7am to 10pm) and the sauna. The hotel is about five minutes on foot from the Croisette and the Palais, ten from the Vieux-Port and Le Suquet. No pool. For a car, it points guests to the EFFIA station car park at €21 per 24 hours, spaces not bookable in advance (noted in 2026). This is not the address for charm: it is the one where the displayed price looks most like the price you pay. Official website.
N° 06
10 rooms · rue des Belges
Hôtel Le Mistral, the tiny one a few steps from the Palais
13 rue des Belges, a street that opens onto the Croisette. Just ten rooms, air-conditioned and soundproofed, with a fridge in the Privilège category. The hotel describes itself as a few steps from the Croisette and the Palais, and three minutes on foot from the beach. Breakfast is listed at €11. Two limits the website states itself: the hotel is not wheelchair accessible and does not accept pets. Its website shows no star rating; booking platforms list it as three-star, to be confirmed. With ten rooms it fills in no time: book early. Official website.
What we avoid
What we avoid: believing that a cheap hotel in Cannes exists in May. During the Film Festival and Cannes Lions, rates are multiplied by three to six, including in the three-stars on rue Molière. The big trade shows at the Palais have the same effect, for a shorter time. Before fixing your dates, look at our trade show and congress calendar.
What we also avoid: paying for a city-side room in a five-star on the boulevard at the price of a suite in a four-star in the centre. If your budget only covers the smallest category of a grand hotel, you are buying a name and a window onto a street. Our guide to the grand hotels of the Croisette explains when they are worth their price.
Finally, we are wary of the words "near the Croisette" on a comparison site. They cover rue Molière just as well as hotels beyond the railway line, twenty minutes away on foot. Check the street on a map: between the Croisette and the rue d'Antibes, you are there; north of the station, you no longer are.
When to book, and how
The right windows: April, June outside Cannes Lions, September and early October. The sea is swimmable, the gardens of the small hotels are in use, and rates stay within our guideline brackets. From November to March, outside congresses, it is the cheapest time of the year: location then matters more than anything, since you are walking rather than swimming.
Book direct. None of the six hotels publishes a fixed price, but several list benefits reserved for their own website: Jardin Croisette puts forward a best rate guarantee, OKKO offers early check-in and late check-out on direct bookings. Compare the comparison-site price with the hotel's own, then ask in writing for the floor and the orientation.
